I Lost My Dream

by Gerald Anthony

If you have ever traveled to a new city, it is never easy to find your way around. You may or may not purchase a map, but if you do you are constantly looking at it. There are certain stages of life where we seem to have gotten lost on life's map. For some individuals it may be after a family tragedy or career change. For others it may be with pregnancy, childbirth, or after marriage. Whatever the event or circumstance, you may think to yourself thoughts such as, "I have lost my dream." Here are three suggestions that won't solve your problem, but may help put you back on the map.

1- Pre-destination versus free will. There is a group of us that might consider that our lives are all pre-destined by a higher power. We have no control of our lives and therefore should just accept whatever comes our way. There is also another group that might consider our lives to be completely dependent upon what they want to do creating not only their own path but also their own map. What if both were true? What if you were pre-destined with certain skills and abilities, but at the same time given free will on how to use those ‘pre-destined' items? When you feel you have lost your dream, think about considering what you have been programmed to do as well as your next free choice in how to use your program.

2- Don't look back; opportunity is in front of you. This quote from Thoughts of the Day is a perfect description for what is our next step. In life we will loose opportunities due to circumstance, but we will also gain others from that same circumstance. Try to contemplate ways that your dream may be able to remain in existence, but probably with a different twist.

3- Give yourself time to process disappointment. It is a natural to have a feeling of disappointment when events do not go as planned. Give yourself time to process why do you feel this way, what led to this event, and eventually create a new plan to move forward. Recognizing feelings is not a bad thing in itself. However, we should not dwell on feelings to a point to where they control who we are.

COLORS AND LIGHT REFLECT AND CAUSE YOU MOODS AT HOME

The colors of the rooms in your home reflect your kind of person. Men and women who live there can discuss together some compromises to even the score in deciding for the colors of the house interiors. If you’re an adventurous type, perhaps light blue reflects the color of the sky especially if you like to sky dive. Or if you are uptight, red or similar color will do.

On the other hand, it is quite possible that not only does the way we decorate our homes reflect who we are, but the shades and tones of hue within our walls also does the exact opposite. Instead of reflecting our moods, they may help cause them. Reddish tints can make people nervous and agitated. Yellow make many people pensive and introverted. And there are many other forms of this where colors in our homes effect one's mood.

Even if colors affect one's mood, so does sunlight. Bringing a little more rays of sunshine in a house can help lighten up any house. Here are some tips for making your house lighter with consideration of the usual financial management check.
  • Open the shades. Many people are afraid of exposing themselves to the outside, but with a little bravery nothing does better than opening those blinds. (Use natural light as much as possible. Don't rely on artificial light as much. Try to allow the sun to serve as most of your available light inside.)
  • Bring the outdoors in by adding a wall mounted water fountain to your home. These items often come in bright metals, such as stainless steel and copper, that have an almost mirror-like effect.
  • If you do use artificial lights, try not to use florescent. Florescent light, although very bright, has a dull glow to it that is piercing and doesn't possess that glow other lights have. At night, use lamps not overhead lights. Lamps offer a warm glow, not an overpowering glare.
  • Do not be shy with mirrors. Mirrors carry light more throughout a room. Mirrors reflect light and make a great backdrop for lit candles.
  • Try a freestanding electric fireplace. They can be moved from room to room, can offer both light and heat, and the mantel serves as a great location to place candles on.
The color that the walls, furniture and other household items have, can seriously alter the brightness of a house.
  • Try lighter colors for the walls. White is fine, but this is too transparent. Try an off white, a light blue or some other ‘cheery' color.
  • Try to tone down on furniture that have too intricate of patterns on them. Simple patchwork, dots and the like have a lighter feel than say more intricate designs that are too busy.
  • Keep the arrangement simple. When arranging the furniture and other living items, keep everything spread out and symmetric. Nothing dampens a mood like clutter.
So if you plan to spend extra bucks and your shopping mood seems ready for compromise for that long awaited home improvement, consider the right choice of color, proper arrangements of furniture and fixtures, and the lighting provision that will suit your personality and wishes.
